Welcome to the Huw Lewis-Jones Art site

NEWS
I updated the Website in January 2013. I have introduced a new section on "Portraits and Figures" and added 5 new landscapes to the landscape section.

I was lucky enough to have 2 more landscapes accepted for the Royal Cambrian Academy Open exhibition in their Gallery in Conwy. It opened on Saturday the 12th of January and runs up to the 22nd of February. Check their wesite for opening times.

I curently also have a small exhibition of 6 original oil paintings in the continuing Christmas exhibition at The Gallery Liverpool in Stanhope Street near the Albert Dock.

On April 4th 2013 my portrait of Ben Rees was unveiled at the Liverpool Welsh Society near Penny Lane. Ben has been of huge influence in Welsh and Liverpool Society for over 50 years and the portrait was commissioned by Dr John Williams and the Seniors of the Chapel to acknowledge this landmark. It was a moving evening and it was fantastic to meet such open and friendly Welsh ex patriots in Liverpool. Many thanks to all of them for a fabulous welcome.

ARTBIOGRAPHY
I was born and raised in Dolgellau North Wales. I completed my art “O” and “A” levels and in my final year prepared a foundation course portfolio.
I visited Liverpool, then the capital of North Wales, regularly. I decided to study medicine in Liverpool, arrived in 1976 and have lived here ever since in the area of Garston, South Liverpool.
Painting has always been an important part of my life and I have continued to develop my style over 20 years of painting.
Capital of culture year, 2008, offered me fantastic opportunities and inspiration. I turned to the City of Liverpool’s landscapes and tried to capture images of the city at night.
Aintree Hospital became part of “The Face of Liverpool” art initiative encouraging employees to display their work. I have exhibited at Aintree Hospital, the University of Liverpool at The New Slaughterhouse gallery, Garston and in the last 2 years have been fortunate to be one of the artists exhibiting at The Gallery Liverpool, Stanhope Street. They are hugely supportive and encouraging and are committed to the development of Arts in Liverpool.
I owe a huge debt of thanks to Paula O’Malley at Aintree for encouraging the face of the city initiative and to Alex Carina who gave me the opportunity to display at the Slaughterhouse.
In the last 2 years Nic Cork has been very generous in allowing me to exhibit at the Corke Gallery on Aigburth Road. 2 years ago I had my first public solo exhibition with him and this year I was co exhibiting with Martin Greenland, a great honour for me.
My paintings are split into 2 subjects: the night time city landscapes of Liverpool and the beautiful North Wales landscapes to be found in the Snowdonian mountains around Dolgellau. These pictures represent powerful personal images from my past life and I hope they spark in you some of the emotion and feeling that the landscapes generate for me. I hope you enjoy the Website, feel free to comment in the contact section.
I have recently changed my email address which is now lewisjoneshuw@gmail.com
